HSG System Dynamics Group
The HSG System Dynamics Group (SDG) is a group of researchers of the Institute of Management at the University of St. Gallen who are dedicated to the modeling and simulation of complex systems.
The HSG System Dynamics Group emerged from research and teaching activities at the University of St. Gallen, since the mid-eighties.
System Dynamics is a discipline for the modelling, simulation and steering of complex dynamic systems. It makes available a mature, generic methodology, by which the structure of such systems can be modeled and their behavior simulated. This methodology was developed by Prof. Jay Forrester at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In our day it is used all over the world.
System Dynamics is unmatched in the coping with complexity in organizations of all kinds. It can open deep insights into their functioning and enable the development of powerful strategies. The methodology is applicable to a great variety of situations, and with astonishing learning effects. Therefore, System Dynamics is not only used in organizations but also for the modeling and simulation of “large” problems, - of ecological, social and economic nature.
